# NeighborhoodTreasure

> NeighborhoodTreasure is an automated, public index of the websites currently surfacing across the open web. Sites are discovered from public signals (Tranco, Hacker News, GitHub Trending, Common Crawl, public RSS, awesome-lists, Product Hunt, Reddit), classified into categories, and ranked by sustained traffic. There are no user accounts, no editorial filter, and no paid placement.

## How it works

- **Discovery**: New domains are ingested every few minutes from public signal sources. See [Data sources](https://neighborhoodtreasure.com/data-sources).
- **Classification**: Each site is assigned a category (AI, tools, news, ecommerce, etc.) and a primary region using a heuristic pass plus AI verification.
- **Ranking**: Each site has four scores — Hot (current public-signal velocity), New (recency), Rising (acceleration vs. its own baseline), and Overall (long-term blend dominated by Tranco global popularity).
- **Update cadence**: Continuous ingestion, score recompute every 30 minutes, full re-score nightly.
- **Blocking**: Adult content, spam, parked domains, and infrastructure-only hosts are excluded automatically.
